It’s light-hearted/cheerful and will make you laugh out loud. If you’re short on time, this is the perfect quick and easy read for you. She is a very funny writer and writes great jokes. This is by far my favorite Sarah Adams book. Sarah always delivers a happy ending, I never have to worry about how things are going to work out for her characters and this one was no different. Nathan works from a cheat sheet his teammates put together (if you love The Bromance Bookclub, you’ll LOVE Nathan’s teammates!), while Bree tries to stick to her own rules as well.

More than I usually do when I read a Sarah Adams book. It’s very sensitive to how Sarah handles it, how Bree and Nathan handle it. Sarah handles panic attacks and anxiety with a deft hand she proves that no one is immune from anxiety, stress and panic attacks. There’s a lot of talk about sex or physical bodies, but it feels so tasteful or funny that it never made me feel gross.

That is, the couple is waiting until marriage to have sex, although it is clear that it is a new decision for them. However, the steam of The Cheat Sheet book is off the charts and I wouldn’t give it to a teenager that easily. Well, this is a “closed doors” book, so it’s inherently non-graphic. I loved how sure Bree was that Nathan would put her first from the very first chapter. One of the best parts of Friends for Lovers is how well the characters get to know each other throughout the book, which means we can focus on romance and awakening. Our couple have fantastic chemistry and support each other throughout the book.

I especially liked the brotherhood of friends that surrounds Nathan and I really hope that he is preparing a series as they were great together. The story was partly laughable, and not just a comedy of slapstick or random awkward moments, but also a lot of fun for me. They went out of their way to show the other person that they mattered. I loved Bree and Nathan! They supported and accepted each other throughout the book. You have to eat sleep? Adult? You may not read this book then, because I definitely put all three things off while reading this book! (Or maybe you might have better self-control than I do, that’s fine too.) I also liked the supporting characters (Bree’s sister Lily, all of Nathan’s soccer friends, Dylan and Bree’s ballet students). Nathan and Bree are delightful and both offer a great sense of humor. Dual perspectives drive you home even more. Each chapter adds something to the story. The wonderful thing about a friends-to-lovers trope, though, is the built-in intimacy that comes with years of inside jokes, shared experiences, and built trust.Īlthough The Cheat Sheet novel is quite short, Sarah has a way of filling the pages with substance. In terms of tropes, I tend to prefer enemies to lovers, in the style of The Hating Game or The Enemy (another novel by the author of this book). I have read all of Sarah’s contemporary stories and they just keep getting better for me. The hair ties, the FRIENDS references, the jeans, and a t-shirt heroine (which he can still wear if he wants to)… this author gets what I’m looking for in a romantic comedy.
